“Everything in moderation”. When I share my growing philosophy about not controlling screen time, what I get back is, “Oh yeah, but everything in moderation.” And I keep thinking this only applies to socially undesirable behaviors. For example, people that want to be outside all the time don’t get told, “Everything in moderation, make sure you get equal indoor time.” Intense athletes don’t get, “Make sure to balance your training with some couch.” If it’s socially and class desirable like being outdoors, sports, or academics, no moderation is required. But when it’s screens and gaming, out comes the moderation rhetoric.
